STRIKE A POSE, VOGUE: WORLD-FIRST FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW SET FOR BELFAST

STRIKE A POSE, VOGUE: WORLD-FIRST FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW SET FOR BELFAST

A world-first fashion photography exhibition is set to open for public viewing at the Ulster Museum as part of the 2017 Belfast Photo Festival.

Presented in association with event partner Victoria Square, Fashion – Blurred Lines: A Matter of Attitude is the festival’s signature show for 2017.  The exhibition will present a selection of the most influential fashion photographers of our time and will be on display to the public in the Ulster Museum from June 4-30.

The show has been specially curated by Diana Edkins, an internationally respected visionary in fine art photography since 1971. In curating this world-exclusive fashion photography exhibition, Diana has drawn on her expertise in the field of fine art and photography, including her 19 years’ experience as Curator and Manager of Rights and Permissions with the illustrious Condé Nast Publications – publishers of iconic magazines such as Vogue, GQ and Vanity Fair.

Renowned photographers featured in the exclusive showcase include Robert Mapplethorpe, Bruce Weber, Jack Pierson, Craig McDean, Viviane Sassen, Stef Mitchell and Kristen-Lee Moolman.

Fashion – Blurred Lines: A Matter of Attitude presents imagery shot for iconic publications including British Vogue, Italian Vogue, Vogue Paris, Vogue Home and many other internationally acclaimed fashion publications.

In addition to this exhibition, event partners Victoria Square will be visually transformed with the installation of three large scale, high fashion photographic prints suspended in the centre and accompanied by a further three 5-metre, purpose-built walls showcasing a selection of the imagery on display in the Ulster Museum.

Michelle Greeves, Centre Manager comments “at Victoria Square we pride ourselves on bringing new and diverse experiences to our visitors. We were therefore keen to partner with this year’s Belfast Photo Festival, to showcase some of what is on offer at the Ulster Museum, in an interesting and unique way.”

Continuing the theme of fashion, current Picture Editor at British Vogue, Mike Trow, will chair two talks at the Ulster Museum on Saturday, June 17 discussing how some of the fashion magazine’s most iconic images were created.

The 2017 Belfast Photo Festival, Northern Ireland’s premier visual arts festival and the photographic biennial for the island of Ireland, runs from 1 – 30 June 2017 exploring the increasingly topical themes of sexuality and gender and how they relate to the perception and expression of identity social constructs.

With greater outdoor presence than ever before – supported by outdoor exhibitions partner Alexander Boyd Displays – this year’s festival presents an extensive programme of exhibitions, talks, workshops, screenings, masterclasses, reviews and tours across 25 city-wide venues.
