GET YOUR FASHION & BEAUTY FIX AT STYLEFEST 2018

Lights, camera, fashion! Running from 8 until 15 September, Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council will host a series of fabulous fashion and beauty events perfect for those with a love of all things fashion! Stylefest 2018 will focus on showcasing some of the amazing businesses and stores that the borough has to offer.

Each local event will host a catwalk show featuring local retailers as well as style workshops, image consultancy, hair styling tutorials and make-up demonstrations. Fashionable comperes, Sarah Travers, Rebecca McKinney, Siobhan McGarry and Pamela Ballantine will narrate the various evening events, talking fashionistas through all the biggest trends for autumn/winter, how to wear them, whatever your style and budget; and where to buy them from locally.

There are five fashion events taking place across the week: The Johnston Building at Shambles Yard and Brownlow House, Lurgan, both on Thursday 13 September; Rushmere Shopping Centre, Craigavon and F.E. McWilliam Gallery, Banbridge on Friday 14 September and Portadown Town Hall on Saturday 15 September.

With live music, drinks and canapes on arrival plus much more, it is a perfect night out!

FOYLESIDE SHOPPING CENTRE BRING HOME DOUBLE PRIZE AT NATIONAL SECURITY AWARDS

The Security Team at Foyleside Shopping Centre are celebrating after winning two top awards at this year’s British Security Industry Association Awards. The team scooped the top prize of “Best Team” and security guard Paula Casey was recognised for her work with the accolade “Service to a Customer”.

The Best Team award is presented to the team who demonstrates excellence in customer service and effectively working together.  The Service to a Customer prize is awarded to a team member who provides high quality customer care, gives an outstanding service to the customer who has received other achievements. Paula has previously been awarded with an “Excellence in Action” Awards for her input during the Customer Service Excellence Shopper Report in 2017.

Foyleside Shopping Centre was ranked number 1 in a survey of 26 shopping centres in the Lambert Smith Hampton portfolio for customer service.

The high calibre of entrants applied from across the UK and Foyleside Shopping Centre beat off stiff competition from numerous private security companies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Leading cosmetic retailer Make Up Pro Store has opened a brand-new state of the art store in Derry/Londonderry. The business, founded by award-winning makeup artist Paddy McGurgan, has moved from its premises on Pump Street to a 1,600 sq ft space in Foyleside Shopping Centre, following an investment of £50,000.

The new store will not only act as a cosmetic store but additionally as a makeup training academy. Budding makeup artists will be able to avail of innovative lessons in the artistry of makeup, learning complex techniques from Paddy himself and his team of highly trained artists. FESTIVAL OF FLIGHT RETURNS TO NEWCASTLE WITH SPECIAL FOCUS ON YOUTH AND STEM ACTIVITIES

Tomorrow (Saturday 11 August) will see the return of the much-anticipated Festival of Flight sponsored by Rockwell Collins, over the shores of Newcastle in scenic County Down.

Known to be one of the favourite events in the summer calendar, Festival of Flight will feature a stunning airborne display, led by the Red Arrows. This will be complemented by family fun events including an Aviation Centre, Food Village, Live Music and an RAF100 STEM and Youth Zone. These activities will be located at Castle Park and Donard Playing Fields.

The RAF100 STEM and Youth Zone will concentrate on innovation in the world of aviation in a bid to encourage young people to explore the world of aerospace. There will also be the opportunity for the public to get up close to iconic aircraft from the RAF’s 100-year history and immerse themselves in technology progressions in aeronautics. The aircraft tour will be located in Donard Park. All areas are available to visit for free on today, tomorrow and Sunday.

A uniquely designed RAF100 Flypast App is downloadable for mobile phones and tablets.  As the RAF have chosen Newcastle, Northern Ireland for their 100th year celebrations, bespoke elements have been designed specifically for the Festival of Flight.  It gives the user the opportunity to view a Red Arrows flypast in Augmented Reality, collect and store 3D models of aircrafts and reveal stories and information about each aircraft. The app is available to download on Apple and Google Play app stores by searching RAF100 AR Flypast.

On Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 August, a sleeping 36-foot giant called Finn arrives in Warrenpoint in the hope that local residents and tourists can help wake him up.

Travelling across by ferry from Carlingford, giant Finn will move through Warrenpoint town centre as part of a noisy parade on Saturday 18 August at 4pm*, as his family ask the public to help them wake him.

On Sunday 19 August at 2pm and 4.30pm, his family will host an epic gathering, open to all families and ages, in hope they can finally stir him from his slumber. Wake the Giant is a two-day festival of superb entertainment and performance for all the family. From music, arts and crafts and speciality food stalls.

The stories of Finn Mac Cumhaill are woven deep into the history of this region – from his travails on Slieve Gullion, to his battles with rival giants. Each year, the people of Warrenpoint re-enact these epic tales in a collaborative performance.

The man charged with designing and creating the narrative for this year’s show is renowned actor and writer, Dan Gordon. It will put his humorous signature and quirky style on this year’s story that will enthuse children and parents alike.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chair, Councillor Mark Murnin, said: “Wake the Giant is one of our most highly anticipated events within the summer programme. Every year the numbers keep growing and this year we don’t expect that to change. THIRD TIMES A CHARM FOR DUNDRUM COASTAL ROWING CLUB AT SKIFFIE FESTIVAL

Dundrum Coastal Rowing Club proved once again they are a force to be reckoned with as they successfully won the Strangford Skiffie Festival Championship on Sunday July 29th, marking the third year in a row that the local club have won the overall prize.

Spectators gathered at Delamont County Park to witness an exhilarating day of Skiffie races on Sunday as local and international teams competed in a variety of heats. Over 300 competitors took part in a packed day of rowing races, encompassing 21 race categories.  Competitors of all ages raced in a bid to take home the grand prize for their rowing club. In the end, Dundrum cemented themselves as the team to beat as they fought tirelessly to maintain their winning streak for 2018.

Andrew Boyd, Chair of Dundrum Coastal Rowing Club said: “We are absolutely delighted to win the Strangford Skiffie Championships for a third consecutive year. The team have been working extra hard for the past few months and this is a testament to of their dedication and effort. Our team comprises of so many different age groups and this event brings us all together as a community. It certainly wasn’t easy this year, as the fantastic teams from other rowing clubs put up an intense fight. We are already looking ahead to next year’s event to try and make it a fourth year in a row!”

It was truly fantastic to see the public flock to Delamont County Park, despite the weather, to enjoy these exciting races. The Skiffie festival was the first of five events in the Giant Adventures summer programme, a series of family festivals run by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to showcase the region’s breath-taking mountains, coastline and mythical stories.

Next up this summer is Footsteps in the Forest on 4th and 5th of August at Slieve Gullion, Festival of Flight in Newcastle on 11th of August, followed Wake the Giant in Warrenpoint on the 18th and 19th of August, and City of Merchant in Newry in the autumn.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide communications support to a diverse range of consumer and corporate clients from a range of sectors, as well as managing digital media channels for clients.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a fun, growing and forward-thinking agency. This person should be capable of managing many projects at once while delivering consistent and high-level traditional media relations and social media results. In addition to creating and implementing solid media relations and social media strategies, this person will need to be a strong writer and demonstrate first-rate client service and teamwork skills. The individual must have a minimum of one years’ experience – ideally from an agency environment.

Role Requirements

  • Write press releases, news stories, online content, articles, case studies and product pieces
  • Pitch press releases and feature ideas by phone or email to national, regional and trade journalists, across print, broadcast and online, to interest them in covering our clients’ stories
  • Respond to phone calls and emails from journalists
  • Arrange interviews and editorial meetings with key journalists for clients’ spokespeople – in person or over the phone – and facilitate these meetings where appropriate
  • Attend and undertake client photocalls
  • Attend client events and industry conferences
  • Monitor media coverage and report results to the wider team and clients

Essential Criteria

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification) in a PR or marketing discipline OR any degree (or equivalent qualification) plus a postgraduate qualification in a PR or marketing discipline
  • Minimum one years’ experience in a public relations and/or digital role
  • Must have good grasp of the media landscape in NI and ideally in ROI
  • A full clean driving license with access to own car

Desirable (not essential)

  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and undertaking CPD.
